How much can you earn as a freelance copywriter?

I'm new to copywriting and to the Writtent community.

Right now, I'm working on building multiple income streams and trying to make copywriting a side hustle after my day job.

How much can I expect to make as a copywriter?

Thanks!

I'm a senior copywriter at a San Francisco agency, making $102k. Recent Indeed searches show the average pay here is closer to $125k, which is one reason I'm job hunting.

For freelance work, I charge $140/hour but can adjust based on the project and client.

I have 15 years of experience as a writer, with four years at my current agency.

Predicting earnings for beginner freelance copywriters can be tough. Rates are usually lower (around 4-5 cents per word), and project sizes vary.

Focus on building a strong portfolio, delivering quality work, and choosing a niche to stand out. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Keep learning and working hard to succeed!

Hi!

How much someone earns depends on their hard work, experience, skills, and the time they invest. The job or industry they’re in, their reputation, and the clients they have also matter. All of these factors play a big role in how much money they can make.

As an employee, you might earn around $10,000 to $20,000 per month. If you’re an entrepreneur or freelancer, your earnings could be unlimited - but it’s not easy at the start. With enough hard work, though, you can reach your goals. The choice is yours.

Hope this helps.

Skilled copywriters don’t need to accept low-paying clients; they create value for businesses, making their work highly valuable.

With the right clients, you won’t be stuck with content mill rates paying pennies per word.

According to Salary.com, the starting pay for an entry-level copywriter is $47,083 per year, or about $23.25/hr. However, this figure is based on employee data and may differ for freelancers.

Senior copywriters in the U.S. earn an average of $90,000 annually, with salaries ranging from $73,379 to $108,913.

For reference, one of my first hourly copywriting jobs paid $35/hr, and my very first project, with no prior clients, was around $700 for a few webpages.
